In Montana, we look out for our neighbors—especially those who have sacrificed the most. This year, the Department of Montana American Legion is proud to announce the inaugural American Legion Legacy Ride. We aren’t just hitting the open road for the scenery; we are riding to ensure that the children of our fallen and 100% disabled post-9/11 veterans can pursue a college education.
Since its inception in 2006, the Legacy Scholarship Fund has raised over $16 million. However, as tuition costs continue to rise, the need grows. This year, our Montana riders aim to raise $25,000+ to contribute to this vital mission.
The Mission Behind the Miles
When a parent makes the ultimate sacrifice or returns home with a life-altering disability, the entire family feels the weight. We believe that a parent’s service should never be a barrier to a child’s education.
The Route
Our journey will cover approximately 750 miles through western and central Montana. The ride begins at 9:00 AM on Friday, August 14th, and concludes at 8:00 PM on Sunday, August 16th.
Day 1: We depart from Missoula, traveling through the beautiful Bitterroot Mountains and the Big Hole to Dillon for lunch. We will then continue to Ennis for the evening.
Day 2: We travel from Ennis to Helena for lunch. Afterward, we will ride over Fletcher Pass to Highway 200 and Clearwater, turning north on Highway 83 through Seeley Lake to reach Kalispell for the night.
Day 3: We depart Kalispell, heading south on Highway 93 along Flathead Lake to Elmo, where we will catch Highway 28 through Hot Springs. Upon reaching Highway 200 in Plains, we will travel west. Just past Paradise, we will take Highway 135 south through the Lolo National Forest and along the Clark Fork River into St. Regis for lunch. Finally, we will jump onto I-90 back to Young’s Grizzly Harley-Davidson for a final evening of camaraderie.
While the Legacy Run is a storied national program, this marks Montana's first year officially raising money for the cause. We invite you to join us in supporting these families.
